Bottlenecks and opportunities towards achieving the targeted 95-95-95 HIV services in a rural district in Eastern Uganda

Background: Uganda has made progress in reducing its HIV prevalence from 7.3% 2011 to 6% 2017, however, more needs be done meet the World Health Organization (WHO) target of 95% population knowing their status, enrolled on treatment and achieving viral suppression. This study aimed assess bottlenecks opportunities towards 95 targeted services Bukedea district. Methods: A mixed-methods cross-sectional was conducted district covering males females aged 18-65 years who had consented participate study. We used a purposive sampling procedure select our participants. Qualitative data collected through focus group discussions, key informant interviews, document reviews for quantitative data. Quantitative were analyzed using STATA v 14 whereas qualitative thematic analysis approach. Results: The challenges grouped as patient-related, medication-related, facility-related. patient-related stigma, fear taking medication, poor nutrition, long distances, alcoholism, busy working schedules, domestic violence. medication-related side effects pill burden. facility-related inadequate pretest counseling stock-outs. use anti-retroviral drugs (ART) common piggery poultry sources these reported people ART health workers. included home-based counseling, organizing outreaches, education, testing, strengthening Village Teams (VHT) networks. Conclusions: revealed that major 95-95-95 pre-test disclosure, adherence due sharing with animals partners. animal husbandry District.
